Membership
All those with an interest in fire engineering are invited to join the Chapter. There are regular meetings held in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. Your qualifications and experience determine which grade of membership applies to you.
The grade of SFPE membership an applicant receives is determined by the international SFPE membership committee, based in the USA. The simplified descriptions below are intended only as a guide and those interested in applying should contact the Chapter for further guidance. Further information is also available on the international website, http://www.sfpe.org/.
- SFPE Member
Granted to those with a scientific or engineering bachelor degree, or equivalent and three years in responsible fire engineering practice. - SFPE Associate
granted to those with equivalent academic qualifications but without the responsible experience required. - SFPE Student
For those currently studying fire engineering at tertiary level. - SFPE Affiliate
Requires neither qualification but offers membership privileges of the international society. - SFPE Allied Professional
For members of the fire safety community who do not qualify for Member or Associate grade in SFPE but who are interested in the fire protection engineering information that SFPE and its chapters have to offer. - Friend of the Chapter
This requires no formal qualification or any particular level of experience, and secures a place on the Chapter mailing list, invitations to Chapter meetings, copies of newsletters, technical papers etc.
Dues
Members, Associates, Affiliates and Allied Professionals of SFPE pay dues to the international society (as last billed US$160 pa, Allied Professionals US$80 pa) plus chapter dues of NZ$76.50* pa. Only those who are Members of SFPE have voting rights within the Chapter.
Friends of the Chapter pay Chapter dues only, and Student members' fees are waived. The membership year for SFPE NZ Chapter is 1 October to 30 September. Chapter dues are invoiced via IPENZ separately to international society dues.
The Chapter is also the fire engineering technical group of IPENZ, membership of which is available on approximately the same academic and experience basis as for Member grade of SFPE, but with the addition of a professional interview. M.IPENZ is the normally recognised entry qualification to become a Registered Engineer in New Zealand. More information is available on the international web page sfpe.org.nz
