Office and computer lab spaces

All graduate students are allocated shared office space within the Department. The Department has a large computer suite and possesses its own Ultrix computer and workstations. A small computer suite, on the third floor, which is dedicated for postgraduate use is also available. Computers may sometimes be available in student offices and can be connected to the campus network. You have access to the College of Engineering Computer Aided Design Laboratory, and the Internet.

Engineering Library

The Engineering Library is situated in the College of Engineering on the north side of campus, and holds the collections of Engineering and the School of Forestry. There are approximately 119000 volumes. Some basic mathematics and other science material is held, as well as engineering and forestry theses.

Technical staff

The Department has a permanent technical staff of over 20 highly skilled, experienced technicians who are available to assist with experimental research. Specialised services within the department include electronics technicians, a graphic designer and computer support. Our well equipped workshops can produce specialised experimental equipment.

Photography and Graphics

A range of photographic equipment is available including Canon digital still cameras and a Canon 4mvi digital video camera. Also available are computers equipped with CD writers and a flatbed scanner in the postgrad computer room on the third floor. Another scanner is also located in the Grotto Computing Room on the second level of the Civil/Mechanical building.

Printing

A printer/photocopier/scanner is provided on the third floor for the civil engineering postgraduate students. Other printers are located in the main civil computer suite, the Glade and Grotto Computing rooms. A colour printer is located in the Glade.

You begin with a complimentary print quota of 500 pages. If this is exceeded then it will be up to you to pay for further pages either at your own expense or through a research account.
