Facilities
The Hydrological and Ecological Engineering group (HEEG) regularly use the Environmental laboratory and Fluids laboratory for a variety of research projects. In the fluids lab, for example, one of the largest hydraulic flumes in New Zealand (2m wide by 30m long) has recently been refurbished and will be used for sediment transport studies and another flume has recently been built for landslide and erosion studies (shown below). A dedicated GIS modelling laboratory is available for postgraduate student research and access to a range of other computer resources (including a Blue Gene super computer) is also available. In addition to indoor laboratories and facilities, HEEG has a wide range of field equipment ranging from rainfall simulators, topographical laser scanner, GPS's, water quality sensors, kayaks, and various hydrological monitoring instruments
