Visiting lecturers
Professor Allan Konopka from the University of Indiana, Purdue spent almost three months in the Department of Civil Engineering with the Natural Resources Engineering Group as an invited visiting Erskine Fellow. Allan contributed to teaching 3rd, 2nd and 1st Professional Year students in the NRE programme and also to 1st Professional Civil Engineering students. Allan and his wife Nancy enjoyed exploring some of New Zealand’s beauty and fine cuisine during their stay. We thank Allan for his contribution and look forward to potential future collaborations with his group. Bon voyage Allan!
Third Professional NRE Students with visiting Prof. Allan Konopka
Dr Howard Williams from PDP (Pattle Delamore Partners) was invited to give a special lecture to 3rd Professional Year students in the Waste Engineering course. Howard is a hydrogeologist and has previously taught in Canada. His lecture on stormwater groundwater issues in Canterbury was very well received. We are grateful to PDP for also allowing Fiona Cox (NRE 2000) to give some insightful lectures in previous years to the same class.
Dr Kate Hewson, the University of Canterbury’s Environmental Sustainability Officer, gave a wonderful lecture to 2nd Professional year students in Ecological Engineering 1 on the University’s responsibility for environmental sustainability on campus and beyond.
NRE Advisory Board
The NRE Advisory Board meets several times per year to provide industry and employer feedback and advice on the BE(Hons)(NatRes) programme. There is cross-membership with the Civil Engineering Advisory Board. It has members from a variety of backgrounds and current occupation:
