Fees

All fees mentioned in relation to this conference are in New Zealand dollars and are inclusive of the local Goods and Services Tax (GST). This tax applies to all transactions in New Zealand without exception and is non-refundable.

The standard registration fee for all participants is NZ$900 rising to NZ$1000 on 3 November.

Social Functions and Field Trip

We have planned 3 social functions for the conference. These are all included in your registration fee but you will need to confirm your attendance on the registration form.

Opening welcome reception/Icebreaker on November 30th
Cocktail Function December 1st
Conference Dinner December 4th

There will be a field trip on December 3rd.

Partners and guests are welcome at the social functions but a charge applies. See the online form for details.

University of Canterbury

The University is located in Ilam, about 6km from the central city but handily located to shops and motels. All conference sessions will be held in the Central Lecture Theatre Block. Please check the Venue page for more information.

Accommodation

We have reserved rooms on your behalf at the following places. You must book a room via the online registration form. Rooms should be secured with either a credit card or a minimum of 1 night deposit.

Academy Motor Lodge – located just across the road from the campus and a short walk to the lecture theatre. Room rates range from $110 - $130 per room/night
Chateau on the Park – this hotel is located a short taxi ride from the campus and is also very close to Christchurch’s renowned Hagley Park. Rooms cost NZ$151.88 per room/night.
University Hall – this hostel style accommodation offers a bed and breakfast rate of NZ$65 per room/night. All rooms are single but you would be sharing bathroom facilities. As the hostel does not operate as a hotel, the full cost of your stay there must be paid for in advance of your arrival.

General Information

Banking and Currency

New Zealand operates a decimal currency system. Most internationally recognised currencies can be exchanged easily at banks, hotels and international airports upon presentation of your passport. Normal banking hours are Monday to Friday from 9.00am to 4.30pm. Most banks are closed on weekends and public holidays.

Climate and Clothing

It will be early summer in Christchurch and the weather is likely to be variable. The days are likely to be clear and sunny with cool night time temperatures.

The power supply in New Zealand is 230 volts AC, 50 hertz

Travel Information

Airport Departure Tax

A departure tax has to be paid at the airport when you leave New Zealand. Please note that this tax may not be included in your ticket price. At the time of printing this was NZ$25 per person.

Insurance

Delegates are reminded of the need to take out their own travel and loss of deposit insurance, to extend where necessary any private policies for personal items in their luggage, and to arrange appropriate medical cover. It is recommended that delegates obtain comprehensive travel insurance, including cover for advanced deposits that may be forfeited through inability to travel at the last minute.

Passports and Visas

All visitors to New Zealand require a valid passport. A number of countries have reciprocal arrangements whereby a visa is not required for visits shorter than three months. If a transit stop is required in Australia, a transit visa for Australia may be required for travellers from some countries. Please check your own circumstances, and where necessary, apply for a visa not less than two months prior to your departure.

Participants should go to http://www.immigration.govt.nz/ to download the visitor visa application form, locate details of the office to lodge applications and relevant visa fees and how to pay these.

Conference Cancellation Policy

All cancellations should be notified in writing to the Conference Secretariat.
Conference cancellations received before 1 November will receive a refund, less 10% administration fee.
No refunds will be made for cancellations received after that date.
Substitute delegates are welcome without penalty, but please advise the Secretariat of any name changes.
